SPAN 301 - Comp/Oral Practice
Course Description:
Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency.
Reflective Narrative:
This class is taught by Pablo Oliva, and is another class focused on refining our language skills in Spanish, both through composition and oral assignments. Here, you can read a narrative essay about a small squirrel named Tito who finds a golden acorn, or you can click here to look at a group presentation that my group gave in front of the class. We learned a wide variety of topics in this class. Some of it was, for me, a repetition of the lessons I have been learning since High School, but I didn't mind because it was always a big help to review it again. I also got a taste of new material in this class, like when we discussed at length all the different phrases that can be used to connect sentences. (De repente = All of a sudden; Sin embargo = However; Sino = But instead; etc.) We also got the chance to talk about things other than grammar, like when we discussed LGBT issues, Conspiracy Theories, and Traditional vs Montessori Education. This class fulfilled MLO 1.
